Coach Lee is the Director and Head Coach of Mid-Maryland Beach Volleyball Club, which he co-founded in 2017 as the first beach volleyball club in Frederick County. Since its founding, he has coached athletes ages U12–U18, focusing on teaching the techniques and tactics of beach volleyball.

From 2021 to 2023, Coach Lee served as the Varsity Volleyball Head Coach at Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, MD. During this time, he coached the team in techniques, tactics, and strategy; created match statistics; and reviewed game film with athletes. Under his leadership, the team progressed from being historically at the bottom of the Class 4A division to advancing to the second round of playoffs in 2023.

In 2019, he coached Junior Varsity Volleyball at Oakdale High School. He conducted tryouts with over 60 athletes, coached the JV team in volleyball fundamentals, and assisted the varsity team, which finished second in the Class 2A State Championship.

From 2014 to 2018, he was the Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach at Tuscarora High School. His responsibilities included coaching varsity athletes in techniques, tactics, and strategy; tracking match statistics; and reviewing game film. In 2017, the team finished the season as one of the top 8 teams in the state (3A), and in 2015, the team won its first Central Maryland Conference title.

He also served as the Junior Varsity Coach at Tuscarora High School from 2014 to 2016. He conducted tryouts, coached fundamentals, and supported the varsity coach in planning and running the summer camp, raising over $3,000 annually for the program.

From 2006 to 2012 and again from 2014 to 2018, Coach Lee coached at Frederick Volleyball Club. Over 12 seasons, he conducted tryouts with hundreds of athletes, coached proper techniques in passing, setting, blocking, hitting, and serving, and taught volleyball systems and strategies. He attended over 60 all-day tournaments during this time.

Coach Ricardo (Rico) is a director and coach at Mid-Maryland Beach Volleyball Club, VP of Mid-Atlantic Volleyball, and a coach at FVBC. He started coaching in 1975 across various age groups and skill levels. With over 100 wins at Tuscarora High, Rico currently coaches at Walkersville HS and marks his 20th year as head coach for FVBC.

Rico began coaching at 16 with the Montgomery County Recreation Department. In the late ’70s, he launched the first adult volleyball clinics program. As one of the founding directors of Mid-Atlantic Volleyball in 1982, he organized tournaments, clinics, and leagues.

His extensive coaching history includes Head Coach of Women’s Soccer Club (1975-1979), USAV Women Club (1980-1986), Shaika Jr. Boys Volleyball Club (1987), Adult Women in Montgomery County (1987-1990), MVBA women volleyball Club (1988-1990), Sinjin Smith Volleyball Beach Camp (1991), Walter Johnson HS (1996-1997), and Club Coach for FVBC (2005-present).

Rico has completed CAPI, CAPII, Gold Medal Square, and Art of Coaching Volleyball Clinics. He is an AVCA member and currently coaches beach volleyball for Mid-Maryland Beach Volleyball Club, attending BCAPI and BCAPII.

Born in Costa Rica and later a Chilean before moving to the US in 1971, Rico played high school soccer, studied photography in college, and enjoys fishing, camping, traveling, and family. He has been married to Kim for 35 years; they have three sons.

Coach Caleigh played for MMBVC during its inaugural season in 2017, continuing until she graduated from Tuscarora High School in 2020. She then went on to play Division III Beach Volleyball at Stevenson University. After graduating in 2024, she became a club director and head coach at MMBVC.

Coach Anna is in her third year of coaching and has been passionate about beach volleyball since she was 15. At 16, she competed in Beach Nationals and was named First Team in Frederick County during her time at Catoctin High School, where she graduated in 2023.

Coach Madison graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 2026 and is committed to play D1 Beach Volleyball at Jacksonville University in the Fall.

Coach Chad has played volleyball for decades, including at the famed Manhattan Beach and the “ultra competitive” backyard league in Adamstown. He’s been a mega fan of beach volleyball since 2017, when MMBVC started. He has coached volleyball, soccer, tennis, and basketball, and is looking forward to this new venture.
